It still brings up sad feelings everytime I log onto this website and see the picture of my greatest friend, and a young man that I admired staring back at me...Kirk and I were really close. In some ways, we were closer than brothers...I have been thinking about him a lot lately, and wanted to in some small way honor him.

On this forum, please post a story about him. Share your experiences with us about one of God's most amazing young people.

I remember about 1996ish, we had attended the NCMA tournament and Shodai Atchley had asked me to babysit Kirk, I gladly accepted...because Dr. Atchley is my friend and because Kirk and I were close. He ran away from me and Sensei Norman Wilson and we threatened to duct tape him to a moving car as we chased him around the hotel, we found him, talking to the elevator. How strange, what we didn't realise was that he was comforting a young lady that was trapped inside, when we arrived, we couldn't be mad at his ability to reach out and help others.

That night, we also taught him to swim, by throwing him head first into the deep end...he learned real quick and thanked us often after that.

Behind every outstanding young person there are either great parents, great family, great friends, great mentors or a combination of all these in some form. I didn't really know Kirk that well but do know that he comes from a loving community of family, friends and martial artists. We should all hope to do such a great job with our children. Having seen the sadness of my parents in the loss of two children, my brothers, it is admirable to see Mr. Atchley and family move forward and honor their son in such a great way through the NCMA family. I know that they know Kirk is in Gods hands, smiling down upon all of us and encouraging us to also move forward and make a difference in the lives of others while we are on this earth. We must always hold dear to that kind of spirit.
